error and fatal error while importing pot and saving as po and mo

Reported by: sst Owned by:
Priority: normal Milestone: 1.5
Component: UI Version: 1.4.6

Platform: mac

Description

Version Poedit 1.4.6.1
Mac Version 1.5.8

Error log:
14:30:57: /Users/leo/Desktop/german.po:7: invalid nplurals value
14:30:57: /Applications/Poedit.app/Contents/MacOS/msgfmt: found 2 fatal errors

The error occurs when i start a New Catalog From POT File...
The import message is: Poedit Error....... done. Then let's it save it as .mo and .po. But if i write translation i am unable to save, it gives me the above error log. I am also not able to reopen the .mo or .po file after this, the message here: the file is corrupt.

It's the first time i use Poedit and i do it for a volunteer translation. Therefor I can't tell if it is the .pot file which causes the error (i am contacting the author).

I reinstalled Poedit, I downloaded the original .pot file twice. Still the exact same error.

cheers

Note that you are able to save the PO file (as far as my educated guess goes), it's only the compiled MO file that cannot be created (because of errors in your translation).

As for what's wrong: most likely you entered some nonsense into the Plural-Forms field in catalog configuration -- you need to write the right expression there, see the Gettext manual. I can't be more specific, because you didn't follow the HowtoReportBugs instructions (prominently linked from the new ticket page).
